Book Title: Star Signs: New & Selected Poems, DLD Books, 2019
Author Name: Lynda McKinney Lambert

Book Description:
70 poems written over the career of Lynda McKinney Lambert.
She began her career as a published author in September 1990. When her poem, “Even in Arcadia,” appeared in The Daily Athenian, at West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV.
Because she was a Fine Arts Studio major, her poetry was inspired by her art history courses. From that time forward, her poetry and other writings are influenced by themes located in the art world.
At the time of her first poetry recognition, Lynda was a new student in the MFA program as a painter, at the university. This first publication gave her the confidence to continue to send out her poems and it was the beginning of a professional life in writing.
She wrote this first published poem as an undergraduate student working on the BFA Degree in Painting at Slippery Rock University of PA – in 1988.

Excerpt:
The book is divided into 4 sections of poetry.
The opening poem is “Star Signs,” and this is the lead in to the book.
The theme comes from Genesis 1:14 when we have a description of God creating the universe and in particular the stars or “lights in the sky.” My book begins right here, at the beginning of all creation.
Each of the 4 sections is a theme that is located in a poem. That section has a quote from the opening poem of that specific section. These are quotes from the text – an they invite the reader to proceed on into the text that follows.
As with all of my writing there are some themes that are recurring: Passage of time; Elements of Nature; Landscape and Place; Life journey as a Pilgrimage to a destination, motifs from art, music, and dance; contrast between light and darkness.
The predominate motif from this scripture is the structure on which I created this group of 70 poems. Genesis 1:14
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the

Description:

“Kids can get hungry sometimes while on chemo,” says five-year-old Sammy, having a good day despite the malignant tumor invading his brain. Based on true events from the 1980s, Sammy’s story is imagined by his mother and brother as if the young boy might tell it himself. The result is gripping. Told in two parts, Sammy’s account first invites us into the everyday middle-American lives of a mom and her two boys. Sammy is a sweet, good-hearted kid, even as he faces the most difficult challenges in Part 2: “Cancer Arrived.” Here Sammy talks us through hospital trips and procedures, the hardest parts as well as moments of simple joy. It is not always possible to survive such a grim diagnosis, so Sammy and his family must embrace the smaller victories from one day to the next. Finally, our young hero is given one last opportunity to find his own unique path toward triumph. Listen closely as Sammy tells us all what matters most.
