MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR ERIN SWAN…

Erin Swan was born in a small farming town and grew up travelling around the country for her father’s military career. In all the change, books became her constant companions. She received a BA in English from BYU, and began a career as a copywriter and editor. After marrying her first love and having a daughter, she transitioned to freelance writing and editing.
About this time, with the help of the team at Inkitt, Erin received her contract from Tor and saw her dream of publication finally coming to life. She now resides in Utah with her husband, their daughter, and their dog. She continues running her freelance business, and when not working on her novel, she enjoys running with her daughter and dog, and playing video games with her husband.

Erin’s book is entitled Bright Star

Description:

Paerolia has been at peace for two centuries, and all is well in the land―or so it seems. Beneath the surface, a tyrant is rising to power.
A traumatic experience in Andra’s childhood has left her mute and subdued, a servant in the Chief Judge’s manor. But when an assassination team, led by the secretive and alluring Kael, infiltrates the manor and makes a quick escape, she takes her chance and flees with them.
Andra is thrust into the ranks of a secret rebellion―a group of outcasts and believers seeking to overthrow the Chief Judge and replace the corrupt government with new members, ones who will restore and preserve the land they love. Now, the girl who was once an outcast must somehow become the leader Paerolia needs. But she is stronger than she believes―and with the help of a fiercely loyal dragon, she may just be the one to lead them all to victory.

My skydiving web site content writing experience!

Hello everyone,
Today I’d like to keep you updated on my experience writing web content for a skydiving website. To be honest, this was different than anything I’ve ever done in the over six years I have worked as an author/writer. In the process of writing the content, I have learned a lot about skydiving, although I don’t see myself taking up the sport, for financial and personal reasons. With that being said, skydiving is a fascinating topic to write about.
First of all, writing content for a website is totally different tfrom writing articles and blog posts for yourself ora client. For one thing, the project has a very detailed outline with specific instructions, including word counts for each headline and block of text on the webpage. The best thing about writing web content is that they provide source links for you, to help you create your own content, and give accurate information. Although this cuts down on research, there was a bit of research that I had to do for the assigned city, and a bit about one of their packages, so I could provide the information needed, in a creative manner. Other than that, the specifics were laid out for me, to the letter!
Personally, there were some tedious parts of the content that needed to be written, but overall I had fun doing the project! I’m also applying for a few other writing jobs, so keep me in your prayers, and keep your fingers crossed that they accept this first project.
Love and prayers to all my friends in the blogosphere, and I’ll see you next time.

An update for myBlogger friends

Hello everyone,
Have you ever wanted something so bad that you could almost taste it, or prayed for something so hard that you could almost feel it? Well, I’ve been praying for a writing job, for two reasons. Reason number one, to supplement my fixed income, and number two, to use my God given talent for writing. Today, my friends, my prayers have been answered. I finally got a temporary freelance writing job for a sports broker called Rushcube. Although the company would rather me write my articles in Google docs, I asked if I could attach the document in Word, and she had no problem with that. My manager even said that she would be happy to paste the document in google docs for me.
I write this little tidbit, to share my good news, and ask you to continue praying for me as I persue this job opportunity. I will keep you posted on my work, and let you know if any other opportunities come available for me. BTW, if anyone needs a freelance blogger to write guest posts, or ghost write for them, I will be happy to write for you. Let me know if I can be of service in the comments below.

A bit of news, and a question for you all

If you all remember the post I published last week about iwriter.com being inaccessible for the blind, this fact still holds true, no matter how many times I visit the site. However, that particular post sparked an interesting freelance job that I truly enjoyed.
Dan Antion, owner of the wordpress blog titled No Facilities, hired me to write an accessibility review for his company’s website. I am here offering the same service to anyone on this blog who has a site they would like me to check out for them. If anyone is interested in hiring me to render this service for your site, please let it be known in the comments below, and I will give you my email address so we can discuss the price you are willing to pay for this service.
Please note, I am not a web designer, therefore I cannot give you suggestions as to how any changes should be made, but I can let you know what works and what doesn’t in order to make your website accessible for the visually impaired. Many people are unaware that these changes are needed to make their sites user friendly for everyone, so I would like to help companies and individuals strive to make their sites accessible for all users.

The lack of accessibility for the blind where freelance writing sites are concerned

Have you ever seen these freelance writing sites that pay people to write web content, articles and blogs? Well, I have discovered one site in particular that pays writers to write blogposts, ebooks, and articles, including rewriting, articles. However, when I try to submit an article to be approved by the requester, there is no place to submit the article, or paste the text into. Oh the registration process is accessible enough, but you can’t submit your work for payment.
It totally infuriates me when supposedly topnotch sites like oDesk, eLance, and iwriter and writer friendly sites like watpad make trying to be a part of the community or work in their site practically impossible for blind people. Not only that, but when you try to tell them that their site is not screenreader friendly for blind members, and suggest how they can make the site more accessible, they either totally ignore you, or they think that since other people can use the site, they are not required to make it accessible for the blind.
Don’t get me wrong, today’s technology enhancements are very helpful in some ways, but in others, they can be a headache. Please bear with me today, but I am frustrated beyond belief at those who only think of the ease of clicking a mouse rather than making the site easy for all visitors to access.
Please excuse me for venting, but I had to get that frustration off my chest, though maybe I should have saved this for my journal. What do you think? Does anyone know whether there are any accessible writing platforms paid or not for the blind?
On a more positive note, I will have a story published in one of two anthologies that are being put together by the facebook group called get down with the authors. I’ll let you know when the book will be published, and where you can download it for free. We all love a freeby, right? Well, keep your eyes and ears opened for this one!
