MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR WENDY LEDGER

Wendy Ledger is the author of three books, Joy Returns!, Kate and the Horses, and The Loudest Meow: A Talking Cat Fantasy (Book 1: The Cats of the Afterlife Series). Book 2 of this series, The Sharpest Claw, will be available this fall. Wendy lives in Northern California with her husband and their three cats.

Her latest book is entitled, The Sharpest Claw: A Talking Cat Fantasy (Cats of the Afterlife, Book 2).

Book Description:
Kittens are evil.
At least that’s what Jem, a calico cat, thought. And she had proof. In the afterlife, she had watched kittens take over what used to be her home on earth, claiming her people and her cat companion, her best friend ever.
It wasn’t right. In fact it was dangerous. These kittens were two-faced, violent, manipulative, and cunning. They had fooled everyone else into believing they were adorable. Only Jem knew the truth. But how could she convince the others? How could she make sure these kittens got their rightful comeuppance?
Witness the epic battle of wills between a calico cat and a pair of kittens in Book 2 of the Cats of the Afterlife series.

Excerpt:

Two cats, one calico, one orange, sat on the cold stone steps of 14 Redwood Lane, a home off a country road in the afterlife. They had just returned from earth. It was evening, past dinner. The house was dark. It looked like the loneliest place ever.
“Do you think it’s odd,” Jem, the calico cat, asked, “that the other cats aren’t here to welcome us?”
She thought of Queen and Lola, the petite tortoiseshell and the vivacious ragdoll, inseparable, often bossy. Surely they’d want to be here to make some sort of proclamation about their return. And where was Leo, the black cat, who was everyone’s friend? Or Minerva, the grey cat who seemed to know everything? This certainly wasn’t the homecoming Jem had expected.
“Do you suppose they’re mad at us?” the calico cat asked. “I mean, we didn’t tell them that we were going.” As Jem talked, she grew more worried. “Maybe they felt left out. Maybe they’ve abandoned us.”
Marmalade, the orange cat, considered that for a moment. “I think, if anyone is angry, it would be Alasdair,” she said. “I really should have notified him and gotten permission before we left.”
Alasdair was Marmalade’s supervisor. Through his work, he decided what many cats do in the afterlife. The orange cat thought that he was extraordinary. Jem didn’t really know him. But it seemed to her that Marmalade loved Alasdair more than any other cat. That annoyed Jem to no end.
“I don’t think he’d particularly care, one way or the other,” the calico cat replied.
For a moment, Jem thought Marmalade was going to swat her. The orange cat’s paw twitched, then settled back down on the ground before she spoke. “You’ve never spent time with him. He is my respected colleague who I should have consulted before traipsing off to earth with you. Furthermore—”
“Why does there have to be a furthermore?” Jem cried.
The orange cat opened her mouth, but before any more words spilled out, she stopped, lifted her nose to the air and took quite a big sniff. “Mountain lion,” she whispered to Jem. “No more dawdling! Invite me in.”
Jem shivered. It was rather cold out here. And she certainly didn’t want to be eaten by a mountain lion. It would be an unfortunate ending at any time, but it would be particularly sad after you made a decision to come home. Yet the house looked so unfriendly.
Marmalade butted the calico cat’s side with her head. “Would you please get going?” She gave Jem one final push towards the door, which opened when the calico cat tumbled against it and fell across the threshold into a sudden blaze of light.

Cover Reveal for Origin of Shadow by D.M. Cain

I’m so excited to share with you the cover for D.M Cain’s upcoming release, Origin of Shadow! This novella is part of her epic, immersive fantasy series The Light and Shadow Chronicles. The series is centered upon a centuries-long war between two armies and each book focuses upon a character within the timeline. This novella gives the origin story of one of the armies – The Brotherhood of Shadow. The complementary novella entitled Genesis of Light is already available in ebook, paperback and audiobook.
The official release date for the book is 23rd November. In the meantime, if you haven’t read the others in the series yet you can get them here (though reading these first isn’t required to understand Origin of Shadow):

A Chronicle of Chaos – http://mybook.to/ChronicleofChaos
The Shield of Soren – http://mybook.to/ShieldofSoren
Genesis of Light – http://mybook.to/genesisoflight

Book Title: Origin of Shadow (A Light and Shadow Chronicles Novella)

Author: D.M. Cain

Publisher: Shadow City – A Next Chapter Imprint

Book Description

“Vincent Wilder.” The voice broke into his thoughts, everywhere and nowhere at once, deafening, yet somehow a whisper. “Are you ready to learn the truth?”

As heir to a notorious crime syndicate, sixteen-year-old Vincent Wilder is determined to live up to his father’s intimidating legacy, and expand his violent empire. The Wilders have terrorised the city of Pabell for decades and Vincent knows the business inside and out (and has dirtied his own hands more times than he dares to count.)
But no matter how ready he thinks he is, nothing could have prepared him for life at the helm. His father was a man of many things, but secrets wasn’t one of them, or so Vincent had thought. The deeper Vincent gets into his leadership role, the more terrifying and inexplicable skeletons he uncovers.
With the threat of a revolution, a mysterious and intrusive voice in his head, and a long-lost history he had known nothing about, is he really up to the challenge?

You’ve read the Children of Light’s origin story, now experience the same events from a different perspective with this prequel novella from The Light and Shadow Chronicles.

EXCERPT:

The ticking of the timepiece was far louder than it should have been. Every innocuous click of the hands reverberated around the room. Sixteen-year-old Vincent Wilder stood perfectly still, making sure his chin was raised and his expression stony. He tried to hide the fact that his fingers twitched nervously behind his back. This meeting needs to go off without a hitch. There’s so much resting on it. He made an effort to narrow his eyes and puff out his chest, hoping his young frame was imposing.
A single drop of sweat trickled down his forehead, running a sticky trail across his skin. He wanted to reach up and wipe it away, but didn’t dare draw attention to the fact he was perspiring. If they saw it, would they take it as a sign of weakness? So he did nothing and let the salty drop work its way down his forehead, running into his dark eyes. He blinked to clear the drop, but his vision blurred and his eyes itched. He could hold off no longer and was forced to swipe at his eyes with a hurried hand.
His eyesight cleared and he took the opportunity to glance down at the table and the people sat around it. A couple in their early forties sat on one side, close together, huddling for comfort. Their eyes were strong and defiant, the woman’s in particular. Her hands were flat on the tabletop, and she leaned forwards, speaking with determination.
The ashen-faced man beside her was silent. Despite the stony expression on his face, Vincent could see the man’s hands trembling.
Across from them sat Franco Wilder, Vincent’s father. Once, he had a thick shock of dark hair, long and wild, draped across his shoulders. That was how Vincent always pictured his father, but the figure that sat before him had changed drastically in the past few years. As soon as Franco’s hair had started thinning, he had shaved the lot, and the bald head made the most terrifying man Vincent had ever met even more intimidating.
Franco’s posture was rigid and unmoving, a coiled snake waiting to lunge. The dark eyes that had chastised Vincent since childhood were now zeroed in on the couple before him. His father’s fingers were locked together tightly, but Vincent knew that it would only take a split second for Franco to wrench the knife from his concealed thigh pouch. Vincent’s muscles too were primed, ready to propel him into a fight. Never relax around Franco Wilder. He’d learned that very young.

MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR ERIN SWAN…

Erin Swan was born in a small farming town and grew up travelling around the country for her father’s military career. In all the change, books became her constant companions. She received a BA in English from BYU, and began a career as a copywriter and editor. After marrying her first love and having a daughter, she transitioned to freelance writing and editing.
About this time, with the help of the team at Inkitt, Erin received her contract from Tor and saw her dream of publication finally coming to life. She now resides in Utah with her husband, their daughter, and their dog. She continues running her freelance business, and when not working on her novel, she enjoys running with her daughter and dog, and playing video games with her husband.

Erin’s book is entitled Bright Star

Description:

Paerolia has been at peace for two centuries, and all is well in the land―or so it seems. Beneath the surface, a tyrant is rising to power.
A traumatic experience in Andra’s childhood has left her mute and subdued, a servant in the Chief Judge’s manor. But when an assassination team, led by the secretive and alluring Kael, infiltrates the manor and makes a quick escape, she takes her chance and flees with them.
Andra is thrust into the ranks of a secret rebellion―a group of outcasts and believers seeking to overthrow the Chief Judge and replace the corrupt government with new members, ones who will restore and preserve the land they love. Now, the girl who was once an outcast must somehow become the leader Paerolia needs. But she is stronger than she believes―and with the help of a fiercely loyal dragon, she may just be the one to lead them all to victory.

MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR THEA RAMSAY…

Thea Ramsay has been a Christian for a long time. As a member of the Baptist Denomination, she has undergone the believer’s baptism twice—the first time at the age of fourteen, the second time in the Pacific Ocean off Maui, with her late husband.
She started writing before she could spell. She still remembers writing a short story in which she spelled magic “M-A-D-J-I-K.”
She’s also a voracious reader, and still likes magic. Not witchcraft, but that of fantasies and fairy tales, which have delighted people for centuries.
Thea was born blind, and she suffers from chronic pain, caused by a variety of conditions, and a serious mental illness called borderline personality disorder.
Thea loves soft, romantic and beautiful things, which she writes about in her novels, because she feels that the world is lacking in these qualities.

Thea’s latest book is entitled Lucy.

Description:
Ten-year-old Lucy and her parents live on Earth in the last throes of its final holocaust. Their only hope is being accepted as refugees on another world, but one rejection letter after another eats away at their hope, while death closes in on them. Hope revives when a stranger arrives with a letter of acceptance from the mysterious planet Andorpha.

While Lucy, her best friend, Kim, and her parents wait to board the space ship, her parents are killed. Lucy faces danger and growth as she comes to grips with her parents’ death and the strange customs of Andorpha. While Kim laps up Andorphian love like warm milk, Lucy wonders if it’s all too good to be true. When Lucy learns the Andorphians believe their planet is under a curse, she begins to suspect there is a reason that she and her family were so readily accepted as refugees. Do they expect her to be the antidote to an ancient curse?

When Kim urges Lucy to accept the Andorphians and their way of life, the only shot at life they have, Lucy is certain she’s right. But all is not what it seems.

MORE ABOUT THEA RAMSAY (in her own words)…

“I’ve been a Christian for a long time. I’m Baptist, and have undergone the believer’s baptism twice—the first time when I was fourteen, the second time in the Pacific Ocean off Maui, with my late husband.
I’ve been writing since before I could spell. I still remember writing a short story in which I spelled magic “M-A-D-J-I-K.” Ha ha.
I’m a voracious reader, and still like magic, however you spell it. Not witchcraft, of course; I mean fantasies and fairy tales, which have delighted people for centuries.
I was born blind, have chronic pain from a variety of conditions, and a serious mental illness called borderline personality disorder.
I’m concerned about so much darkness and dystopic material in books and movies today. My mother liked horror, the strange and terrible, whereas I’ve always been attracted by beauty, the strange and lovely.
My favorite Bible verse is John 3:16 and 17. It’s still the best news I’ve heard all day. 1st Thessalonians chapter 4 verses 13-18 are also my favorite verses, as they deliver still more good news re the rapture of the church.
I’ve always been fascinated by the idea that true believers in Jesus Christ are called his bride.
My fave book in the Bible is the Song of Songs.
Anyway, I like soft, romantic, beautiful things. There’s not enough of that anymore in the world, so my writing is about that.”

– Rise of the Papilion trilogy: The Purple Morrow, Wolf’s Bane, Berserker

Book Descriptions:

Book 1: The Purple Morrow:
The Rovers were sent to decimate the Southernlands. Instead, they awoke its savior.

Ten years have passed since the Rover army tore through the Southernlands, leaving behind a trail of devastation and death. Most believed the attacks were random acts of brutality. The wise, however, knew the truth: the Rovers sought to destroy the one thing powerful enough to thwart their conquest. They were searching for the Papilion.

A new commander, bent on completing the mission left unfinished by his predecessors, leads the Rovers back into the Southernlands. Fierce and determined, he comes armed with a precious artifact and a secret purpose.

While the Southernlands reel under the new terror, the Purple Morrow, a harbinger of hope, appears to Jeru, an unsuspecting and solitary clan hunter. Finding himself enmeshed in a series of incredible events beyond his control, Jeru is compelled to take the first steps towards discovering his ultimate destiny.

Book 2: Wolf’s Bane:
The Purple Morrow is destroyed. However, its promise endures in the form of a champion, mankind’s only hope against the destruction spawned by an ancient, sinister evil.

The Rovers have invaded the Southernlands, sending its inhabitants fleeing for respite. Waylaid in a defunct desert town, and reeling from revelations about his past, a powerful, emerging evil lures Kelen to seek vengeance. Though he resists, Kelen soon learns that the Shadow Man will not relent until a terrible, ancient claim is fulfilled.

As Marathana quails under the burgeoning darkness, Jeru’s clan looks to him to lead. Jeru, however, knows his path lies elsewhere. Leaving everything behind, he braves the Badlands, a hellish desertland only the hardiest dare tread, to awaken the latent spirit of the Papilion within him. Jeru learns much in that place of desolation, including one truth which could turn destiny on its head. Now more than ever, Kelen, the Wolf of the North, threatens everything he holds dear. Jeru must choose: save the people he loves, or sacrifice them to save Marathana.

Book 3: Berserker:
“Love…can destroy, it can build, or it can do both at once…”

With the Papilion’s whereabouts unknown, the Shadow pursues its plan for Marathana’s destruction. In control of the Northern tribes and strengthened by allies in the Deep Southernlands, the Shadow prepares to unleash its ultimate weapon, the berserker.

Jeru’s sudden reappearance reveals the presence of a powerful, new will at work. Blessed by the Lightbearer and supported by a ragtag group of survivors and unexpected allies, Jeru prepares to lead the small army into enemy territory.

As war breaks, Kelen and Jeru clash one last time. One seeks to destroy, the other to save. The strongest will prevail, sealing Marathana’s ultimate fate.

BE A GUEST…

As authors, creative artists and entrepreneurs, we often find it hard to stand out above the constant chatter on the internet. If that sounds like you, I’d like to help you boost the visibility of your brand. My name is Ann Harrison-Barnes and I run a podcast called Inspirational Journeys. On my podcast I post solo episodes of value to my listeners, led by the Holy Spirit. I also talk to authors, creative artists and entrepreneurs who want to share their inspirational journeys with the world. Please be sure to leave Inspirational Journeys in the subject line of your email or in your comment on my contact form so that I can send you my interview framework.
If you’re launching a book, please let me know and I’ll send you my featured book questionnaire. I ask that you do this, so I can feature your book in the show notes blog post associated with the podcast
