Featured Book of the Week: The Haunting: An Electric Eclectic Book by Karen J Mossman

This week’s featured book is The Haunting by Karen J Mossman.

description:

When a man-mountain of a guy walks into a café and asks for you by name, you sit up and take notice. Cassie is instantly attracted to Damien Mathers, who is also a World Super Bike Champion. He wants her help to banish a ghost. However, Cassie explains she is a clairvoyant, not an exorcist. Damien though, is very persuasive!

The Haunting takes Cassie on a journey she won’t forget. A ghost who leaves her un-nerved and scared – not because of it, but what it unleases within her.

Damien doesn’t believe in the paranormal, until he witness something he can’t explain. He also falling in love, but how can he love her dark side?

Can Cassie hold on to Damien? Can she banish the ghosts and save her relationship?”

“Karen J Mossman manages something quite unitique. This is a story that will make you laugh and scare you at the same time.”

“Cassie came to me one night and the following morning I wrote a short story. I found myself really liking her, she was funny, sassy, and had a great relationship with her brother. Two more stories followed and I ended up with four stories which I put into a book and called in The Adventures of Cassidy Newbold.
I was then challenged to write a short story featuring a hot male and motor sport of some kind. So I decided to make it a Cassie Newbold story.”

Excerpt
Damien and Daniel were very much alike, and I much preferred Damien, which was just as well, really. Their look and build were so similar they could have been twins, but they weren’t.
Rachel was saying, “Every encounter I’ve had with her has been on the stairs or the landing. I even heard her name whispered. That’s why I knew it. I couldn’t believe it when you said it out loud, Cassie. Have you come across something like this before?”
The waitress arrived and took our orders. When she left, they looked at me expectantly.
“Nothing surprises me anymore. Your ghost seems intent on reliving the day she died. She was a slave brought into the country and then someone killed her.”
Rachel gasped, Daniel and Damien appeared sceptical and Damien said, “Come on, how can you possibly know that…”
“I saw someone at the top of the stairs, they moved away as I looked up.”
“They’re not real, y’know,” Damien said.
Rachel answered him. “Then how do you explain what happened?”
He shook his head. “I don’t know, it’s just bizarre.”
“It is.” I agreed.
“Well, I’m sorry,” Rachel said, emphatically. “There is no way I’m moving in with her walking up and down the stairs like that.”
Daniel huffed, his eyes gazing heavenwards with expirations. “This is going well!”
“So, what’s next?” Rachel asked, looking at me. Her large eyes blinked several times, and I think she expected me to perform a miracle.
“All I can tell you is what you already know. The house is haunted. I don’t know if I can stop it if that’s what you’re expecting.”

Featured Book of the Week: A New Summer Garden: An Electric Eclectic Novelette by Paul White

Hello everyone, I hope you enjoyed my featured books about poetry. I posted these previous books in honor of National Poetry month. This week, we are working our way back to short fiction with a special featured book which launched on Wednesday April tenth. Without further ado, let’s highlight our new Electric Eclectic book.

NSGprom2

This week I am proud to feature a book entitled A New Summer Garden: An Electric Eclectic Novelette written by Paul White.

Description:

A crime drama. Sam was a down and almost out, with little prospect for the future when he meets Rachelle, the beautiful wife of the philanderous Peter, the kingpin of an international criminal business empire.

When Peter catches Sam ‘in flagrante’ with Rachelle, he ensures Sam’s simple life becomes complicated.

What happens next takes Sam on a surreal path, where the only plausible outcome is for Sam to end up in prison or dead… most probably both.

Please note, the following excerpt contains language and subject matter that some may find offensive. Reader discretion is advised.

Excerpt:

I have never played poker before. The only game I played with cards was ‘Snap’ when I was a child and I usually lost then. Yet somehow, by one o’clock in the morning, there was a great pile of money in front of me, bunches of twenty and fifty-pound notes.

Things were looking good.

By three o’clock my entire wad of cash was gone. So was my original three hundred pounds stake money Peter gave me.

It had all gone tits-up.

The game was wound up at four o’clock and I was in the shit. I was left with five IOU’s, totalling five thousand seven hundred and twenty pounds. The debt belonged to the two Kosovans and the big Russian, with a few hundred owing to the three Polish fellows.

They said I had one month to come up with the cash or pay with my kneecaps.

Peter laughed aloud saying it was the best three hundred pounds investment he had made in years. In fact, he said, he often paid twice that amount to fuck one of his poxy little whores.

I knew then I had been fucked over. Again.

But this was not the end of the night. Oh no, things were to get a little more complicated than just being stitched up by a jealous husband and owing a gambling debt to a bunch of unstable, possibly ex KGB type, gangsters.

It was from this point on things began to get a little bit dark.

Very dark.

Pitch black.

Featured book of the week: Found! by Karen J Mossman

Greetings to everyone in the blogosphere. This week I have an exciting new book to share with you, which was launched this past Wednesday.

Found Cover.jpg

The book is entitled Found! An Electric Eclectic Book, written by Karen J Mossman.

Book Description:

Eight years ago, after a series of family arguments Mandy walked out and disappeared. For her family, it was devastating.

Changing her name to Amanda and moving to a different part of the country, she begins a new life working in a hotel.  One evening a programme about missing people comes on the television. Her face fills the TV screen.

Everything Mandy had tried to forget returns with new clarity. Seeing the special bond families visiting her hotel have, she realises there is a hole in her heart where hers should be.

Will she have the courage to face the past and realise the misunderstanding was caused by her family’s unique situation?

Found! is a story of courage and hope and a bond that never breaks.

Excerpt 1:

“It’s you, isn’t it?” said Jamie staring at the television set on the top-floor flat of the Glengower Hotel where Amanda worked.

She had been reading a book on wild birds and looked up. Her face filled the screen, and she gasped.

“It is you,” he said again.

“Yes,” she said unable to keep the tremor from her voice. The moment she always dreaded had arrived.

The television programme had just started and featured people who were also classed as missing. Other photographs flashed up on the screen before they were all displayed side by side and hers was amongst them.

Jamie was incredulous. “You ran away from home?”

“Yes,” she admitted, “Eight years ago.” Her stomach churned as she remembered the awful winter of 1984.

“But why?” Jamie’s attractive features were scrunched up with confusion.

Amanda covered her mouth with her hand realising the secret she had kept for so long was out. Part of her always knew this day would come, just not now, not when she was with Jamie.

Their relationship was relatively new, and she liked him a lot. Luckily, he liked her as well.

Clearing her throat Amanda knew she couldn’t just brush it away. She had to tell the truth, or some of it. “Things became difficult at home and I had to leave.”

Excerpt 2:

That night, she woke in a cold sweat. Jamie tried to rouse her. Again, she ignored him until he went away. She was dreaming she was lost on the moors alone. She could hear her brothers calling her and couldn’t find them, whichever way she turned. Her mum was in the clouds trying to guide her, but she just couldn’t get there.

Getting up, Amanda went into the kitchen for a glass of water. She took it to the lounge window and stared out into the darkness. Somewhere an owl called and the full moon illuminated the gardens.

Suddenly she felt a stirring inside… Aaron. As twins, they used to know what the other was thinking and felt linked. She long since learnt to blot him out, especially when she lived on the streets.

The sensation of him flooded through her and now she had let him in, she somehow knew he was awake too.

For the first time in a long time, she called his name from somewhere deep inside. His voice was clear in her head. He was looking at the night sky too and she had the strongest urge to pick up the phone. She turned to look at it. Go on; go on, she heard him say.
