Chapter Four

Why the Men?

Throughout both the Old and New Testaments, God called and used men. We

have Joshua, Moses, Samuel, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Jonah, just to name a few.

We have phrases like “mighty men of valour,” “men of war,” and “gather all the

men.” We have the Levites and the Twelve Spies. There are numerous accounts

in the various books of the Bible where the function of men is recorded.

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ called twelve and one betrayed

Him. However, we find Paul, Timothy, Mark, and many more who did not

betray Him, as we examine the pages of Scripture.

I Corinthians 11:3—“But I would have you know, that the head of

every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the

head of Christ is God.”

Observation No. 1: The head of Christ is God, even though they are one.

John 17:22—“And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them;

that they may be one, even as we are one.” John 10:30—“I and my

Father are one.”

Observation No. 2: The head of man is Christ.

Observation No. 3: The head of every woman or wife is the man. Gen.

2:24—“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall

cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

A husband who lives in obedience to the Word of God would be every

godly wife’s desire; however, there are those women whose husbands are not

God-fearing.

We have come to a place where we realize there are a lot of hurting

women, whether in the church or out of the church; emotional hurts have

no boundaries.

Surely we can find single parents everywhere, teenage sons on drugs,

men selling and using dope, sexual perversion, sexual immorality, and much

more. If left alone, we will soon have a headless society. If you can identify

with this growing problem, let’s do something, about it.

MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR Luke Seibert

Luke Seibert is the oldest of seven children and lives in North Alabama with his family. He became blind at the age of nineteen, and while adjusting to his new life, discovered a love for writing. Today, Luke is working on his masters degree at Midwestern Baptist Theological seminary, preaches at his local church, and loves writing stories. He has self-published four novels, and has several more he is currently working on. Though he enjoys writing stories set in modern times, he especially enjoys writing historical fiction works. Some of his other interests that are incorporated into his writing include woodworking and bluegrass music.

Luke’s featured book is entitled:

The Master Of My Life

Description:

Hate. It’s what drove Josh Neelon from his home eight years ago, and he’s been running ever since. But now with Savannah in his life and things picking up at work, Josh is finally beginning to think he has reached the refuge he has been seeking. Who cares about what happened back then when he was a kid? He was out on his own now, doing what he knew was best.

But then Paul Griffen, a twelve-year-old boy diagnosed with terminal cancer, tears open an old wound and forces Josh to confront the demons—demons from his past that he has been trying desperately to force back into their graves. Paul’s simple faith brings questions to the table that Josh would give anything to avoid having to deal with. But when those questions continue to demand answers, Josh realizes he has the same choice in front of him once again: he can stay and wrestle with his own conscience, or he can leave yet again and begin a new life. As his friendship grows with Paul and memories continue to rise up to haunt him, Josh knows that he can sit on the fence no longer. The time for decision has come.

Excerpt:

Mac weaseled his way ahead of us, the first in the line, first to get his food.  Go figure.  I followed Jackson and Tom toward the counter, studying the menu hanging on the wall behind the register.  The “menu” consisted of a large blackboard, with different colors of chalk distinguishing the different sandwiches, salads, and soups offered.  I was trying to decide between a Reuben melt and an Italian Meat combo, when a conversation at the table behind me arrested my attention.  It wasn’t so much what they said, but who was doing the talking that captivated me.  I turned around hesitantly, almost afraid of the memories that would be resurrected from their graves if my suspicions were true.  I already had to rebury one group of them on Friday, but those would be nothing compared to these ghosts.

A group of guys lounged at a round table, just finishing up their various sandwiches and subs.  A few of them sported various ballcaps, and most wore jeans and a t-shirt.  But my eyes were drawn like a magnet to the owner of the voice that had seized my attention.  He was a pretty young guy, probably early thirties.  He wore a brown flannel shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows.  He wiped his mouth with his napkin, and began to stand up.  As his eye caught mine, he froze half-way out of his chair, staring at me.  It seemed like he was trying to remember, as if he thought he knew me, but knew that it couldn’t be.  But there was no fog clouding my vision as I surveyed my brother-in-law.

If memories were waters behind a dam, the dam just burst.  Images from eight years ago poured over each other in rapid succession.  Images of riding in this man’s truck.  Pictures of him and my sister Rachel waiting on the path ahead of me.  Memories of playing guitar to his runs on the banjo.  Memories.  All those memories I thought I had successfully buried long ago and were no more.  I turned away, hoping that he had not observed the pain-filled look of recognition I must have shown.  I riveted my attention on the menu, trying to hold back the dam, trying to rebury those demons of yesterday.  I had made my decision; it would be the Reuben.

Jackson took his receipt from the cashier, and Thomas stepped up to the counter.  I went to take a step forward, but a hand resting on my shoulder halted my tread.  “Josh?  Josh Neelon, is that you?” I gritted my teeth.  After all these years, why did he have to reappear now.  But, he was here.  What could I do?

I turned to face the lanky, clean-shaven man that addressed me.  “Hey, Charlie.  It’s been a long time.”

Personal reflections, poetry

Original song: You’re Welcome Here

With the Voice of an angel
and the eyes of a child
Your song so sweet and tender
Your touch so meek and mile
Now that you’re with me,
I’ll shed no more tears
My dear sweet child
You’re welcome here!
You’re welcome here, you’re welcome here
No more sorrow, no need to fear.
Long nights are over
There’s no time for tears.
Come in, my child
You’re welcome here.

The touch of your hand
Puts a smile on my face.
Your voice so sweet and tender
Melts my fears away
I’ll keep you safe forever
In my warm embrace
God brought you home
Now you’re here to stay

You’re welcome here, you’re welcome here!
No more sorrow, no more tears
Your song of joy and love
Will last through the years
Be at peace, my child
You’re welcome here!

our voices lift in harmony,
to sing our song of praise
for Jesus saved our souls
By His amazing grace
We have been forgiven
For mistakes we’ve made
He brought you home to me,
That’s why I say!

You’re welcome here, you’re welcome here!
No more sorrow, no time for tears
We lift our voices
for everyone to hear
Our praise to the Lord,
And we trust in His word
Holy Spirit
You’re welcome here!

As I was cleaning up the kitchen after dinner, the Lord laid this song upon my heart. My advice to you, when you lift your voice to sing praises to the Lord, don’t be surprised if the Holy Spirit fills your heart with a brand new song. This song touched me deeply, and I pray that it blesses your heart to read it as it blesses mine to share it with you.

John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, he gave His Only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Lord and savior, there’s no better time to fall to your knees, confess your sins, and ask for forgiveness, than this very moment. God will meet you wherever you are. Give your heart to Jesus, before it’s eternally too late. You, dear readers, are always in my thoughts and prayers.
God bless you,
Ann

MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR S.A. Wilson…

S.A. Wilson is an author who writes Christian/religious fiction and fantasy, among other things. He’s a military veteran who’s currently married with a house full of kids.

S.A. Wilson’s book is entitled: The Carpenter: A Retelling of the Story of Joseph of Nazareth

Description:

Joseph, a master craftsman and carpenter, stokes the ire of his family when he weds his pregnant (and seemingly unfaithful) betrothed, Mary. Pious, devout, and guided by the dictates of Heaven, Joseph has no issue with taking Mary – who still claims to be a virgin – as his wife and committing himself to the protection of her child, whom he senses is extraordinary.
However, there are others who are also aware of how special the child is, and not all have its best interests at heart. Among these is the despot Herod, whose oppressive rule and wanton cruelty are legendary. Deeply troubled by a prophecy concerning a King to Come, the tyrant is committed to finding – and eliminating – this threat to his reign. (And, having already murdered members of his own family in order to maintain power, Herod has no qualms about killing a baby.) In addition, there are forces beyond the ken of men that also recognize the singular nature of Mary’s child, and which are determined to keep the salvation that the babe represents out of mankind’s reach.
All of these factions and more converge on Mary and Joseph as they trek from Nazareth to Bethlehem in hopes of starting a new life. On a journey fraught with peril, Joseph fights to protect Mary and her unborn child from danger on all sides, including the elements, bandits, and Herod’s legions – as well as an utterly evil and otherworldly demonic force determined to stamp out mankind’s only hope of redemption.
Armed with little more than his wits, his faith, and his carpenter’s hammer, Joseph must face impossible odds to ensure the safety and survival of not only his family, but mankind’s future….

MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR KIMBERLY FAITH…

Kimberly Faith Lowe is a successful lawyer, mother of three children, servant of God, author and singer/songwriter.
I’ve had an extremely busy law practice for over 20 years and currently have offices in Waynesville and Houston. I had no idea that I would ever write and record music or become an author. It all began about five years ago when I really began to seek to know God. I started spending quality time with Him every day and as I did, He began teaching me practical lessons. I began texting them to my children every morning. Soon, they would ask me to add their various friends to the text list. Little by little the text message group grew. About six months into writing the devotionals, people began to ask me to put them in a book. So that’s what happened. I was blessed to use illustrations drawn by local 5th graders to illustrate each chapter. Amazingly, God gave me devotionals every day for years. We set up a website to post them on: GoFaithstrong.com. I published the first book under the pseudonym “Malachi” because I really wanted God to receive the credit for the work—after all, it is His. However, many of my readers have pushed back on that idea because they’ve made the very legitimate point that the devotionals need to have a transformed life to connect the testimony to the message. I agree. The second volume was published under my singer/song writer name “Kimberly Faith.”

Kim’s latest book is entitled:

xx

Essential Faith Volume II

Description:

Essential Faith is a daily devotional book written from the author’s personal experience of her relationship with God. Kimberly wants this book to inspire others to deepen their own relationship with God. She takes everyday problems and writes about how God solved them in her life. Those who read this book will find themselves opening it each day with eagerness and re-reading sections to take with them during the day.It will richly bless their lives and forever change the way they relate to God.

Excerpt:

“The Richest Relationship” from Daily Devotional January 1st – “The New Year is beginning today. Does it give you a sense of hope and anticipation? Although I’ve always enjoyed the refreshment of a New Year, knowing God more personally has made the newness even more exciting! When we fall deeply in love with God, we are swept away by His unfathomable love and incredible wisdom. We desire His guidance for all our decisions. We learn to allow God to lead us—like a small child—in the power and peace of His purpose.”

She is a powerhouse entrepreneur who has grown her speaking/ coaching business while not only continuing to run her boutique performing arts booking agency but while serving as the 24/7 primary caregiver for her daughter.
• She is a sought after speaker/ expert on resiliency and mindset for corporate and personal development events as well as on podcasts and stages throughout the US. She has transformed the lives of thousands around the world with her GRIT Mindset Academy featuring the “B.E.S.T.” formula.
• Meridith’s speaking career evolved when her youngest daughter was randomly crushed by a boulder. Rather than give in to despair and in spite of tremendous stage fright, Meridith began sharing her uncanny belief in the tangible power of positive expectation.
• Her inspirational posts on her Facebook page Schuy is the Limit quickly gained thousands of followers around the world who watched her daughter Schuyler overcome the “impossible.”
• Today, in addition to running her two thriving businesses, Meridith is undoubtedly one of the most joyous 24/7 caregivers on the planet. Schuyler and Meridith’s positive mindset continue to inspire all who meet them.

Meridith’s book is entitled THE SKY IS THE LIMIT.

Description:
The Sky is the Limit is a compilation of the actual inspiring posts that tell the story of how the crushing blow from a random boulder taught this Mother/ Daughter team not how to face death but how to choose to fully live! A journey of inspiration and discovery like no other! On February 19, 2016, Meridith’s youngest daughter Schuyler, a recent graduate from Yale, was crushed by a boulder while traveling in Colombia, South America. The doctors weren’t sure that they could keep her alive long enough for Meridith to get down there. On that plane, Meridith realized that she had to make a decision. She could let those circumstances define her forever as “the mother of a child who was crushed by a boulder” — or she could dig deep within herself and become the reluctant hero that her daughter needed. Rather than use her posts as opportunities to spread despair, Meridith filled her updates with the encouragement for others to fulfill their dreams and evolve into the best version of themselves. It’s a testimony that we don’t succeed in spite of our boulders. It’s our boulders that inspire us to learn just how high we can soar.

Personal reflections

Original poetry: second thoughts

I have second thoughts about my journey,

The process of writing my story.

Are the words that I placed on the page

Written for gods glory?

Give me oh, Lord, the words to write

Lay your story upon my heart,

These second thoughts do not seem right

Please give me a brand new start.

What would you have me write today

To make my story ring true?

The words you Place upon my heart

I’ll share to give all the glory to you.

Amen.
