Success story and my crowdfunding campaign

Dear readers, viewers, and fans,
I have a small favor to ask, but before I get to that, let me share the story of my success as a writer.

I was inspired to write back in late 2004 early 2005, by the introduction to a book I was reading called New Stories from the South 2001, edited by Lee Smith. In the introduction,Ms. Smith was talking about a student she had, that didn’t think she was a writer. When Ms. Smith asked her to tell her about a favorite memory, the student said something about walking in a mall in North Carolina, The phrase “Listlessly walking in a mall…”, caught my attention, and right then and there I decided to begin writing a story of my own. The “story” turned into a novel, which didn’t do as well as expected, but that book taught me a lesson I will never forget. I learned not to publish a novel without first having fellow writers critique it, and I also discovered that it’s best to get a professional editor to help you fine tune your work. Since that first book was published, I have learned a lot about the writing process from the Behind Our Eyes organization for writers with disabilities (www.behindoureyes.org and http://www.magnetsandlatters.org), and through my course of study in the field of communications at Kaplan University.
My love of music and my writing brought me through a trying personal situation in my life, and music is often times the inspiration for my creative writing. During the healing process, I often had dreams of climbing. These climbing dreams were quite challenging, and I couldn’t turn back once I started the difficult climb, to take the easy way out. I had to move forward and upward, then take another rout to either go back to square one, or come full circle to the place I needed to go. I strongly believe that these dreams were God’s way of showing me that no matter what I faced in the past, by His amazing grace, I was able to climb out of the pit of despair, and into the light of His love. Romans 8:28 says “For we know that all things work for good to them that love God; to them that are the called according to His purpose.”, and I live by this verse every day.
As a result of these dreams, I have been fascinated with mountain climbing in recent years. A few years ago, I read a book called Savage Summit, depicting the lives of women who either climbed Mount K2 and died on the mountain, or survived K2 and perished in other such climbing expeditions. The stories of these women and their climbing teams were written in such a way, that I was able to picture myself on these nearly impossible climbs. The materials I read about mountain climbing were the inspiration for my story called the Big Climb, which has been published in an anthology called Awethology Light by the Awethors. This anthology as well as Awethology Dark and the December Awethology Light and Dark volumes are available as free downloads from Smashwords, Amazon and other ebook retailors.retailers.
In 2014, I wrote a very rough first draft of a novel called The Apple Wheel, and won the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenge. I participated in NaNoWriMo 2015 and came close to finishing a novel called Epiphany High, which is a high school mystery with a message of forgiveness. Although I was 500 words short of reaching 50000 words in 30 days, winning the challenge wasn’t my main objective, my objective was to write a novel in 30 days, and to have fun while doing it.
Many of my short stories are inspired by dreams, writing prompts, everyday life, and my biggest inspiration is music. These sources of inspiration, sparked the creative ideas for the stories in my latest ebook called Stories Outside the Box, which is available through Smashwords http://bit.ly/25e3AdT, and Amazon http://amzn.to/1ZWxjkX. I have also published a short story entitled A Whirlwind of Memories, in an anthology called Gems of Strength, which is also available through all major ebook Retailers. However, if you’d like to purchase a paperback copy of Gems of Strength, please contact me through my social media outlets, or by email At annwrites75@gmail.com.
I continue to write fiction inspired by many aspects of life, such as a fountain that I’ve walked past in Orientation in Mobility lessons, or my singing bowl.. During the first year after my emotionally trying situation, I found music to be a very powerful source of healing, along with a few spiritual blessings from God. During the past few years, I have learned not only to listen to music as a source of entertainment, but to tap into it’s deeper vibrations and meaning. Delving deep into the heart of a piece of music, has sparked my fascination with the healing power of God’s gift of sound. As I have started doing research and making discoveries about the music of my environment, and the powerful vibrations of sound, I started writing a book called Embracing the Healing Power of Music: Seven Steps for finding your way out of the darkness, and into the light through God’s gift of Sound. This project is one of many that are on my radar to be published in the near future. My target audience for this book consist of people who have suffered some type of traumatic experience in their lives, or those who suffer from some sort of depression and fee that there’s no way out of the pit of despair. People who have recently read my stories can tell you that my writing has a message of hope, love, faith, and forgiveness. Although going into business for myself as an author is my main objective, it’s not the only reason I want to become a professional author. I feel that God has called me to reach out to these people through my writing, and if my stories or my self-help book can change the life of just one person who is carrying a heavy burden, and feels like he or she is bearing it alone, that is an even greater reward. My fascination with the healing power of sound, and music has led me to find recordings of Tibetan Singing Bowls. I purchased a bowl of my own back in April, and it took me a couple of months to learn how it likes to be played, with the help of a video or two, and allowing the bowl to be my teacher.. When I play my bowl, it helps me connect with my creative self, although this is a spiritual connection that God has blessed me with, the vibration of the bowl’s dominant voice, and the chattering overtone opens up my throat chakra, so that I may hear the music within me. This in turn sparks my creativity, and allows me to write from my heart. The singing bowls play a part in a story I’ve recently started writing. That says a lot for the connection between me and my bowl. It may be small, but a powerful source of inspiration in its own right, nonetheless.
Not only do I write fiction and a bit of nonfiction, , but my experience as a freelance writer, and my work with Project Starfish America (www.pstarfish.org) has enhanced my professional writing skills as well. If there is one thing that I want people to take away from reading my story, it is the message of hope, faith, love, forgiveness, God’s amazing grace, and the gift of Salvation. No matter what mistakes you’ve made or what trying experiences you’ve been through in your past God still loves, and longs to bring you back into His divine, forever family. You are precious and you are well loved! Always remember my dear readers, you are important to Our Heavenly Father, and our Lord and savior Jesus Christ first of all, and to me, as friends, friends, and my most devoted supporters. An inspirational thought I’d like to share

I came across this Bible verse and the thought to go along with it when I was looking at facebook a few minutes ago, and I’d thought I’d share it with you, because I feel that someone might receive a blessing from this special message.
If you’d like to share your thoughts on this message, please feel free to comment, and please keep it positive. Here is the message I’d like to share:
promise from the bible: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose. (Romans 8:28)
All things. Every circumstance. The entire realm of possible events. All of these conspire toward a single goal: the good of the Redeemed! Whether trial or blessing, whether great joy or greater sorrow, whether prosperity or suffering, every last detail in the universe works together for the benefit of God’s children!
Love and prayers,n

The flying Swing

The following piece is a fictional piece that was written in the summer of 2014. When My daughter was visiting me during her Spring break last year, I took her out to swing on the swing set we have in our front yard. Well, during these precious moments spent outside with her, an idea hit me sometime early one morning. This idea was based on a writing prompt I came up with for the Behind Our Eyes writers with disabilities group about motion. Here is the short piece that was created from these memories of swinging, and the prompt itself.

The Flying Swing

On a warm summer day, in the middle of June, I go outside to swing with my daughter for a few moments. She and I take our seats in the swings, and begin to swing back and forth, back and forth, in a normal slow swinging rhythm. All of a sudden, I walk the swing back as far as it will go, then I pick my feet up and let the swing go forward as fast as it can.
The swing usually goes only so far forward on its chains, but not this time. I feel the wind in my hair and my feet do not touch the ground. “Mama, We’re flying, for real!” Sharen is flying with me. The swing floats forward, the chains held by some unseen force. We fly over the fence that surrounds the front yard, and away from the house altogether.
The swing sways backward for a fleeting moment, then we sit dangling in mid air. I look down to see that we are miles above the earth. My daughter and I are both scared, but our fear is washed away by the excitement of feeling the wind in our hair as we sit dangling in mid air.
Then, before either one of us can scream, or make the slightest sound, we begin spinning clockwise. “Hold your feet out in front of you and fly with the swing,” I instruct my daughter as I do the same. We spin faster and faster as the wind swooshes through our hair. Round and round we go, where we stop? Heaven only knows! Round and round we go Where we stop… Oh wait, woe!
The swings suddenly begin to slow down and gently sway as we float to the ground. I look down and see that we are back over the fence, but how we got back to the spot where we started, I will never know. The swing glides backwards as we touch the ground, and when it comes to a stop I try to stand up to take Sharen back inside.
I try to get to my feet, but I fall to the ground. The world is still spinning, spinning, spinning, round and round. Wait! I’m not on the ground, I’m not even in my swing, I’m still lying in my bed. July is almost over, and school will start soon. Sharen is still at her dad’s house, and I’m still in my room. What happened to the lovely flying swing, I wonder as I open my eyes to see the sun rising over the land. That’s the moment I realize that I’m not really swinging, I was only dreaming!

chimes and other sounds as indspiration for writing

Good morning,
I have a question and a message for all the writers who follow and read my blog. When you are trying to write something, whether it be a novel, essay, or any other piece you’re working on, do you ever find that you have writers block? That sometimes happens to me. This happened on a couple of days during NaNoWriMo last year.
Let me share with you what I did to combat my writers block. Although everyone has a different approach to avoiding writers block, I personally sat out on my front porch on an overcast day, with a light breeze to cool me off. I sat listening to the wind chimes that my mom has hanging on the porch, and all of a sudden a burst of inspiration hit me, and I was able to write for hours after that.
What I’m getting at here, is that inspiration can strike at the oddest moments, and by the simplest attributes of your day. For example, your child could make a comment about a cartoon character he/she likes, or you can simply hear a tune or a certain sound that triggers an idea, and gets the words flowing through your mind. When that happens my friend, don’t take these special inspirational moments for granted, you never know what story, poem, essay, novel, or other form of writing can be created when inspiration strikes.
Happy writing and God bless,

A devotion I’d like to share

Resting Tomorrow or Borrowing Trouble?
“Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.” Psalm 116:7

I heard of a woman who woke up her husband because she thought she heard a burglar downstairs. He went down with a flashlight and was shining it around. Sure enough, there was a burglar in their home. He said, “Hold it right there. I’ve got a gun on you.”

He picked up the phone and dialed the police. “And another thing,” he said, “Before you go, I want my wife to come down here and meet you. She’s been looking for you for 24 years.”

A lot of people are that way. They borrow trouble by anticipating or worrying about what may happen. What you need to do is stop looking to yesterday in guilt or anticipating tomorrow with anxiety.
Simply rest in the day the Lord has given you today.

reblogged blog post

Before I share with you the message that God has laid upon my heart today, Let me share with you the following devotion:
Submission Must Come Before Victory
“A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.” Proverbs 29:23
Have you ever taught someone to drive? What was the first thing you showed him? If you’re like me, even before I showed my children the ignition switch, the accelerator, or the blinker, I showed them the brakes.
Now suppose your learner said, “I don’t want to know anything about the brakes. I just want to know how to make this thing go!” You would probably reply, “You aren’t ready yet to learn to drive! Forget the accelerator. Before you can go, you’ve got to learn to stop.”
Put this in a spiritual realm. What if I asked you to submit to God and you said, “I’m not interested in submission. I want the victory!” God is not going to pour out His power upon you until He sees in you a spirit of submission.
Now, let’s talk about this devotion. Is there something in your past that turns you away from God or keeps you from trusting him? It can be something as devastating as drug and alcohol abuse, sexual assult, or even mental, emotional, and physical abuse’ or something as basic, yet just as traumatizing as witnessing a tragedy in your life, or in someone else’s life that changed the way you feel about God altogether.
For me, the pivotal moment that brought me to my knees was when I was verbally and emotionally abused by my x-husband and his family. When I came to live with my parents, I asked God to give me strength to face the pain I suffered during the seven and a half years I was married. He used music and other spiritual blessings to helpme face my fears and become a much stronger person. While God was taking my broken and wounded spirit and making me whole again, I had dreams on several occasions of climbing ladders and strange stairways. I believe to this day that I was spiritually and mentally climbing out of the pit of despair during the past five years. Now God has laid a story on my heart that I would like to share with the world.
A Journey of Faith is the first book in a series I am working on entitled The chosen path. In this book, Becca Martin goes rock climbing with her family. While racing up one rocky slope with her older sister Amanda, she witnesses a horrible accident on the stepping stones. At the age of twelve, she didn’t understand what happened, so she runs off the mountain and pushes the memory back into the deepest recesses of her mind. Sixteen years later, after getting her college degree in information technology and landing a job with a major company in Memphis, she feels the urge to go climbing into unknown territory. One of the recurring nightmares she has makes her want to travel down the path that God has chosen for her. Even though she still hears a voice from somewhere deep within her crying “God Help me!” She is afraid of the unknown, yet she prays “God, if you’re still there, I am going to trust you to get me through this journey you hav chosen for me.”
What tragic accident did Becca witness on the stepping stones at Sweet Water State Park? what happens, or who does she confide in to bring the memory of the accident back to life for her? Is she able to go rock climving again? Find out in this page turning, heart touching story.
If you’re going through a tough time in your life that you are afraid to face, I sinceerlrly pray that Becca Martin’s story will touch your heart and help you face the traumatic event in your life, and turn to God for divine healing. If you want to read morem Please help me get this book published by voting for it at http://soopllc.com/blog/book-ideas/journey-faith-ann-harrison. Your love, support, and most of all your prayers are greatly appreciated. If you like this post, and you wish to discuss it, or you would like to share your story, please feel free to comment and keep the conversation going.
