MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR Robin Patchen…

Robin Patchen is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of Christian romantic suspense. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, the setting of her Nutfield Saga books, and then headed to Boston to earn a journalism degree. After college, working in marketing and public relations, she discovered how much she loathed the nine-to-five ball-and-chain. After relocating to the Southwest, she started writing her first novel while she homeschooled her three children. The novel was dreadful, but her passion for storytelling didn’t wane. Thankfully, as her children grew, so did her writing ability. Now that her kids are adults, she has more time to play with the lives of fictional heroes and heroines, wreaking havoc and working magic to give her characters happy endings. When she’s not writing, she’s editing or reading, proving most of her life revolves around the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. Visit Robin’s website to receive a free book and stay informed about Robin’s latest projects.

Tides of Duplicity

Robin’s latest book is entitled Tides of Duplicity, which launched today!

Description:

A jewelry heist, a kidnapping, and a choice. When Fitz’s sister disappears, he’ll do anything to get her back, even if it means betraying the woman he’s come to love.

Private investigator Fitz McCaffrey went to Belize on a case, bringing his teenage sister Shelby along with him. They have no good reason to leave the resort and hurry back to the harsh New England winter. They lost their parents, he lost his job as a cop, and they both need time to heal. Besides, when Fitz meets the beautiful and charming Tabitha Eaton, he falls hard.

But minutes after Tabby’s flight leaves, Fitz is summoned by a mobster who believes Tabby broke into the hotel safe the night before and made off with half a million dollars’ worth of jewels—and he has the video evidence to prove it. As Shelby’s guardian, Fitz has to focus on caring for his sister, whether Tabby is innocent or guilty. He refuses to help the man—until he learns the mobster has taken his sister.

The clock is ticking as Fitz scrambles to recover the jewels. If he succeeds, it’ll cost the woman he’s come to care for. If he fails, it’ll cost his sister’s life.

Excerpt:

Tabby had just stepped out of the shower when the doorbell rang, followed instantly by the sound of pounding.

What in the world?

She dried quickly and slipped on her bathrobe, growing more irritated by the second as the doorbell and pounding continued. She was shoving her feet into slippers when she heard a shout.

“Tabby? Are you in there?”

Fitz sounded terrified. He’d acted so strangely at lunch, and now this. What was wrong with him? Where was the easygoing man she’d met in Belize?

She hurried down the stairs and yanked open the door, but the porch was empty. She was about to call out for him when he rounded the house from the side. “What are you doing?”

He didn’t answer, just took her porch steps two at a time and stepped in. “Thank God. Thank God. Are you alone?”

“Um—”

“Are you alone? Is anybody…?” He took in her appearance. “You were in the shower?”

“What’s going on?”

He took her hand and stalked through the dining room, where he checked the windows. One was unlocked. How had that—?

He pulled her behind him into the kitchen, checking every door and window along the way.

“Fitz, what are you—?”

“I’ll explain. Just…” His words trailed as he yanked her through the living room and toward the stairs, tugging her up behind him.

Her racing heart told her there was something seriously wrong. As much as she liked the Fitz she’d met in Belize, the Fitz she’d had lunch with that day was somebody different. He was suspicious and demanding and angry. Whichever Fitz had shown up tonight, she wasn’t going upstairs with him. She grabbed the handrail. “You need to stop.”

He turned to face her, his eyes filled with… fear?

“What’s going on?”

His Adam’s apple bobbed. “I need to search your house for intruders.”

“Why?”

“I’ll explain. I promise. I’d rather you stay with me because I’m worried for your safety. You could wait outside, but… No. It might not be safe out there. But if you’d prefer to wait here—”

“Should I call the police?”

His gaze flicked up the stairs, back to her. “I’d rather you didn’t.”

“Why?”

“I promise I’ll explain. Just let me…” He dropped her hand and ran up the stairs.

As he peeked around, she bristled at the invasion of her privacy. How dare he? He seemed utterly unconcerned when he ran back down, passed her, and rounded the corner at the bottom. She followed into the short hallway between the kitchen and living room and watched as he disappeared through the door that led to the basement.

It was the only door he hadn’t opened on his initial search of her downstairs. Had he known it led to the basement?

How?

Fear coursed through her. Fear of what, she didn’t know.

Of him?

Something else?

A moment later, he came upstairs. Before she could process what was happening, he pulled her into his arms and held her against his chest. “Thank God you’re safe.”

She gripped his jacket. “What is happening?”

“I promise, I’ll explain everything. I just…”

He looked down at her, and the dark fear that had pulsed between them turned to something different.

He dropped his arms. But he didn’t back up.

She stared into his eyes, trying to discern what she saw. The fear was still there, but lurking behind it, desire.

His hands slid along her jaw, into her hair.

Her skin tingled to her toes.

Despite his crazy behavior, despite her own worries moments before, everything in her wanted to step closer, to lose herself in him.

MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR Luke Seibert

Luke Seibert is the oldest of seven children and lives in North Alabama with his family. He became blind at the age of nineteen, and while adjusting to his new life, discovered a love for writing. Today, Luke is working on his masters degree at Midwestern Baptist Theological seminary, preaches at his local church, and loves writing stories. He has self-published four novels, and has several more he is currently working on. Though he enjoys writing stories set in modern times, he especially enjoys writing historical fiction works. Some of his other interests that are incorporated into his writing include woodworking and bluegrass music.

Luke’s featured book is entitled:

The Master Of My Life

Description:

Hate. It’s what drove Josh Neelon from his home eight years ago, and he’s been running ever since. But now with Savannah in his life and things picking up at work, Josh is finally beginning to think he has reached the refuge he has been seeking. Who cares about what happened back then when he was a kid? He was out on his own now, doing what he knew was best.

But then Paul Griffen, a twelve-year-old boy diagnosed with terminal cancer, tears open an old wound and forces Josh to confront the demons—demons from his past that he has been trying desperately to force back into their graves. Paul’s simple faith brings questions to the table that Josh would give anything to avoid having to deal with. But when those questions continue to demand answers, Josh realizes he has the same choice in front of him once again: he can stay and wrestle with his own conscience, or he can leave yet again and begin a new life. As his friendship grows with Paul and memories continue to rise up to haunt him, Josh knows that he can sit on the fence no longer. The time for decision has come.

Excerpt:

Mac weaseled his way ahead of us, the first in the line, first to get his food.  Go figure.  I followed Jackson and Tom toward the counter, studying the menu hanging on the wall behind the register.  The “menu” consisted of a large blackboard, with different colors of chalk distinguishing the different sandwiches, salads, and soups offered.  I was trying to decide between a Reuben melt and an Italian Meat combo, when a conversation at the table behind me arrested my attention.  It wasn’t so much what they said, but who was doing the talking that captivated me.  I turned around hesitantly, almost afraid of the memories that would be resurrected from their graves if my suspicions were true.  I already had to rebury one group of them on Friday, but those would be nothing compared to these ghosts.

A group of guys lounged at a round table, just finishing up their various sandwiches and subs.  A few of them sported various ballcaps, and most wore jeans and a t-shirt.  But my eyes were drawn like a magnet to the owner of the voice that had seized my attention.  He was a pretty young guy, probably early thirties.  He wore a brown flannel shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows.  He wiped his mouth with his napkin, and began to stand up.  As his eye caught mine, he froze half-way out of his chair, staring at me.  It seemed like he was trying to remember, as if he thought he knew me, but knew that it couldn’t be.  But there was no fog clouding my vision as I surveyed my brother-in-law.

If memories were waters behind a dam, the dam just burst.  Images from eight years ago poured over each other in rapid succession.  Images of riding in this man’s truck.  Pictures of him and my sister Rachel waiting on the path ahead of me.  Memories of playing guitar to his runs on the banjo.  Memories.  All those memories I thought I had successfully buried long ago and were no more.  I turned away, hoping that he had not observed the pain-filled look of recognition I must have shown.  I riveted my attention on the menu, trying to hold back the dam, trying to rebury those demons of yesterday.  I had made my decision; it would be the Reuben.

Jackson took his receipt from the cashier, and Thomas stepped up to the counter.  I went to take a step forward, but a hand resting on my shoulder halted my tread.  “Josh?  Josh Neelon, is that you?” I gritted my teeth.  After all these years, why did he have to reappear now.  But, he was here.  What could I do?

I turned to face the lanky, clean-shaven man that addressed me.  “Hey, Charlie.  It’s been a long time.”

Excerpt:

Take some time to look at your traps and what’s limiting you. Maybe there are certain ways that you talk to your spouse, parent your kids, or spend your money simply because that’s the way you’ve always done it—because you believe that’s how it should be done. Here’s the question you need to ask yourself: What would the payoff be if I changed the way I do something? There’s always a payoff—and if it’s attractive enough, if it’s important enough to you, if it means enough to you—you can push through the pain to the reward. And it starts with a decision.

Excerpts:

From page 42: Ms. Gertie had no tolerance for whining and she enjoyed taunting other residents who continually complained. When she wanted something, she would yell curse words and threats. Luckily for us, the 3 nurses she aimed her fists at happened to be the fastest gals on our unit. In another stroke of good luck, we found and confiscated the knife under her pillow before she tried to use it. Overall her transition went pretty well…we soon found the way to her heart with coffee and sweet snacks. I am not above bribing folks with food when the situation warrants it.

from page 57: Then there was an obstinate elderly man who was known for being oppositional. One day he suffered a fainting episode. Sally, Dell and I rushed to his room to revive him. After a few moments, his eyes fluttered slightly but he would not respond to our questioning. Sally gently shook his arm and shouted, “Mr. Gregg, Mr. Gregg, can you hear me?” Without moving or opening his eyes, Mr. Gregg said clearly, “No!”
