News and Inspiration for February 2021

Hello to all my dearly beloved readers and happy 2021! I have a little bit of news from behind the scenes to share this month. First of all, please except my sincere apologies for not sending a newsletter in January. I had some writing struggles to work through during the month, but I’m back in the swing of things with my current work in progress, Hunt for the Scavenger Killer, the first book in my Hempstead Mystery series. I will revise Shadow of Truth, once I finish my first draft of this novel, so stay tuned for updates on that project.

To update you on my writing progress, I not only conquered the brick wall in my story, I’m also slowly eating the elephant at both ends. Let me explain how this metaphor works. I’ve been working my way through chapters nine, ten, eleven and now twelve, but off and on, during the last few days, I’ve seen one or two scenes while I’m either lying in bed or in the bathroom. Talk about finding a new place to have a brainstorming session! Last week I wrote the first ending scene one morning and a couple of days later made a cup of coffee and wrote a second scene in my place holder document. I’m telling you, God has a way of providing inspiration in the most unusual times and places.

I also have another piece of exciting news to share! My 2021 poetry season has begun! My first three poems are pasted below.

My Poetry Season

My poetry comes alive

When I sit outside

In my distraction free zone.

When I must hide

Cooped up inside

Verses drift away one by one.

God’s Tin Roof Lullaby

The Voice in the rain

pounding on my tin roof

Whispers in the midst

of the sounds around me.

The Voice in the rain

Drumming on my tin roof

Murmurs its song

Of comfort and sweet piece.

Do not fear the storms of life

God is with you day and night

Listen to His soothing whisper

And sleep in peace tonight.

My Indian Summer Experience

Indian Summer,

What does that mean?

Unseasonably warm autumn months,

With temperatures resembling

Those of early Spring.

With air conditioner running

And birds singing in the trees,

I sit on my front porch

Listening to the wind chimes

Blowing in the gentle breeze.

Wishing for the true feel of Fall

And cooler temperatures

And the sounds of nature filling the air

With my door open all day,

The sound of music

Comes from everywhere.

Indian Summer

was a difficult time for writing

with the drone of the air conditioner

a constant distraction in my brain

With the drop of the temperature

The AC was turned off,

And my characters spoke to me again.

When you feel weighed down

By the noises around you,

Step outside and sit in the quiet of the day,

Listen to the music of your environment

And let all distractions drift

Far, far away

Like leaves blowing in the autumn winds

And let words flow like raindrops

Fill your blank page.

Follow your characters

As they go their merry way

Down the path of your story

Taking you through

Another productive writing day.

Info about my latest interviews and a couple of special announcements

Hello to all you fine bloggers and book lovers everywhere:

Today I’d like to give everyone a little update about what’s been going on in my writing world over the last month, and some information about what I’ve got coming up.

My latest author interviews

Although I’ve been in a lot of interviews where I’ve appeared on author’s’ blogs, the interviews that stand out to me the most are the one on one conversations I have with fellow writers who either conduct interviews on YouTube or their own podcasts. Let me share a bit of how I met the two people I recently spoke with in February, and share the interview links with you so that you can see and/or hear them for yourself.

First of all, I’d like to share with you the interview I did with Matt Whiteside from Uniweb Productions. I was hanging out on Twitter one evening, after searching for the writing community hashtag. Under this hash tag, Mat had tweeted a link to his first author interview.

After listening to the interview on his YouTube channel, I sent him a tweet, asking if he’d like to interview me. From this initial tweet, we followed each other and he explained how his interview process works Via Direct message: “I interview authors on Skype and record the videos, which I post on my YouTube Channel.”

After connecting on Twitter, I emailed Mat my media kit and we connected on Skype. The following interview was recorded on February 12 and it was posted two weeks later.

The second conversation I had was a podcast interview, which I did On February 27. I spoke with the amazing Win Charles, who is a teacher, a published author and a journalism major. What inspires me about Win, is the fact that she does all this work, despite her Cerebral Palsy. Although we had a few kinks in the process, one accessibility issue with her calendar site, and Uber Conferencing acting squirrely in the middle of the show, she and I had a wonderful chat.

I virtually met win through her guest appearance on the How Do You Write Podcast with Rachael Herron. The following evening, I decided to scroll through the writing community tweets on Twitter and one of Win’s tweets appeared on my search buffer. I replied to her tweet and complimented win on her interview. That’s when she asked if she could interview me. I sent her a direct message with my email address and she and her assistant both emailed me to schedule my podcast appearance. The interview can be found in two parts at the following links:

Announcement about my new book!

Hello everyone, today I am proud to announce the release of my brand new Electric Eclectic Book entitled Inner Vision, an Electric Eclectic Book.

If you think you don’t have time to read, think again! This is one of many charming little books that you can read on your kindle, or the kindle app on your phone, no matter whether you have five minutes, or five hours to yourself. Here’s a bit about the book, and I’ll follow this blurb with a link where the book can be purchased, and I’ll even throw in the cover for your viewing pleasure!

Happy reading and writing, and have a Blessed Friday afternoon everybody.

“The past is but a whirlwind of memories,

there are those you want to capture,

and those you want to forget.

Hold on to the precious ones and let the rest spin away into the abyss.”

These are the words Kelly Dobson wrote after learning how to use her Inner Vision in order to do the creative work God has called her to do.

After awakening in an unusual hospital from an operation she never had, Kelly and her physician, DR. Markey Andrews, work together to find the reason why she ended up in a hospital resembling a hotel, rather than a medical facility.

During the process of solving the mystery at hand, Kelly has strange dreams of being carried away in a whirlwind to places which hold memories she’d rather not relive. In order for her to face her fear of her Charles Bonnet syndrome and the accident that caused her blindness six years before.

After being released from the hospital, Kelly gets a brilliant idea to draw the images she sees in her heart and mind. As she does so, her mother stands in awe as the talent her daughter once had as a child returns in full swing, regardless of her blindness.

Even though Kelly’s father doesn’t want to believe in her talent at first, through the power of prayer and her faith in God, she teaches him how to use his own inner vision.
