Series review of If I Run by Terri Blackstock

Hello everyone in the blogosphere,
Today I’m coming to you with a little something different. Instead of a single book review, I’m reviewing an entire trilogy. The series is entitled If I run and it was written by Terri Blackstock

The first book is the title story from which the series got its name. If I run, takes place after Casey Cox finds her father dead at the age of twelve, and years later she finds her best friend’s body. She has been accused of her friend’s murder and has to live off the grid, hiding from detectives Keagan and Rollins. Dillan Roberts is hired by Brent’s parents to find Casey. However, the more he learns about her, the more he begins to believe that she’s been wrongly accused.

The fact that Casey put her own problems aside and nearly got caught helping her new found friend find her kidnapped granddaughter in Shady Grove, Georgia, is what made me like her. I grew to like Dillan toward the end of the book, when he uncovers the truth about his “prey”. Gordan Keagan is a character you’ll soon love to hate, though I thought his intent on finding Casey was wise. However, my dislike for him grew stronger, when Hannah sent Casey the thumb drive from Brent, which contained incriminating evidence against Keegan. At the end of the first book, Casey Meets Dillan and sends him a copy of the thumb drive from a fake address.

In the first book, you learn a bit about Dillan’s PTSD, However, in the second book, you get to know him a lot more. He’s out looking for evidence against the detectives in the guise of searching for Casey. Oh, Dillan’s still searching for Casey, but for different reasons, he wants to protect her.

Casey puts her life on the line in attempts to save an abused child, who’s parents turned her over to her abuser in exchange for drugs.

The third book in the trilogy is entitled If I live. Before I tell you what I loved about this book, let me say that I give the entire series a 5-star rating.

In If I live, the killer’s true identity is revealed. Although I started with this book, the element that made me want to keep reading was the means by which Dillan and Casey catch the culprit. I won’t tell you what happens in each book of the series, but this is one set of Christian thrillers I absolutely loved. Terri Blackstock is turning out to be one of my favorite authors in the Christian suspense/ mystery genre.

Another thing I liked about the series is the fact that I can use Blackstock’s character with PTSD as a model for my own protagonist in A Journey of Faith, which I’m currently working on. I used this series as inspiration to give me ideas and questions to use in my research and character development.

Terri, if you stumble upon my website and you read this review, I want to thank you for giving me some points to consider for my own writing.

INSPIRATIONAL JOURNEYS PRESENTS!

BOOK REVIEW OF LUCY BY THEA RAMSAY!
Hello:
I’m proud to announce the following episode for your listening pleasure.
Please be sure to read onward after the following message to learn how you can be my guest here on INSPIRATIONAL JOURNEYS.
Thanks for listening and do write to let me know what you thought of this presentation.

WHAT?
BOOK REVIEW OF LUCY, WRITTEN BY THEA RAMSAY
WHEN?
Thursday August 29, 2019
WHERE?

MORE ABOUT THEA RAMSAY (in her own words)…

“I’ve been a Christian for a long time. I’m Baptist, and have undergone the believer’s baptism twice—the first time when I was fourteen, the second time in the Pacific Ocean off Maui, with my late husband.
I’ve been writing since before I could spell. I still remember writing a short story in which I spelled magic “M-A-D-J-I-K.” Ha ha.
I’m a voracious reader, and still like magic, however you spell it. Not witchcraft, of course; I mean fantasies and fairy tales, which have delighted people for centuries.
I was born blind, have chronic pain from a variety of conditions, and a serious mental illness called borderline personality disorder.
I’m concerned about so much darkness and dystopic material in books and movies today. My mother liked horror, the strange and terrible, whereas I’ve always been attracted by beauty, the strange and lovely.
My favorite Bible verse is John 3:16 and 17. It’s still the best news I’ve heard all day. 1st Thessalonians chapter 4 verses 13-18 are also my favorite verses, as they deliver still more good news re the rapture of the church.
I’ve always been fascinated by the idea that true believers in Jesus Christ are called his bride.
My fave book in the Bible is the Song of Songs.
Anyway, I like soft, romantic, beautiful things. There’s not enough of that anymore in the world, so my writing is about that.”

Thea’s latest book is entitled Lucy.

Description:
Ten-year-old Lucy and her parents live on Earth in the last throes of its final holocaust. Their only hope is being accepted as refugees on another world, but one rejection letter after another eats away at their hope, while death closes in on them. Hope revives when a stranger arrives with a letter of acceptance from the mysterious planet Andorpha.

While Lucy, her best friend, Kim, and her parents wait to board the space ship, her parents are killed. Lucy faces danger and growth as she comes to grips with her parents’ death and the strange customs of Andorpha. While Kim laps up Andorphian love like warm milk, Lucy wonders if it’s all too good to be true. When Lucy learns the Andorphians believe their planet is under a curse, she begins to suspect there is a reason that she and her family were so readily accepted as refugees. Do they expect her to be the antidote to an ancient curse?

When Kim urges Lucy to accept the Andorphians and their way of life, the only shot at life they have, Lucy is certain she’s right. But all is not what it seems.

Book Title:

Cassandra and the Cowboy: Texas Treasures book 1

Written by Janine Mick Wills

Book description:

Cassandra Pickett is one prayer away from giving up on God. The tragic death of her father and the devastating results of the Great Drought of 1886 have centered the family ranch, the Triple P, in the crosshairs of the Goose Neck Ridge Bank of Texas. Desperate to save the Triple P, Cassandra sees only one option: marriage to Phillip Brigham, her neighbor and local cattle baron, who promises to repay her father’s loan. When the enigmatic Matt Atkins shows up looking for a job, Cassandra wonders if the cowboy could be the answer to her prayer instead. As they work side by side, Cassandra’s feelings for Matt deepen, and she envisions the possibility of marrying for love and not out of necessity. But her dreams are shattered when she discovers Matt harbors a hidden agenda for the Triple P. Will Cassandra have to turn to Phillip after all, or will God take the shards of her broken dreams and create something far beyond what she could ever hope for?

Book Title: Star Signs: New & Selected Poems, DLD Books, 2019
Author Name: Lynda McKinney Lambert

Book Description:
70 poems written over the career of Lynda McKinney Lambert.
She began her career as a published author in September 1990. When her poem, “Even in Arcadia,” appeared in The Daily Athenian, at West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV.
Because she was a Fine Arts Studio major, her poetry was inspired by her art history courses. From that time forward, her poetry and other writings are influenced by themes located in the art world.
At the time of her first poetry recognition, Lynda was a new student in the MFA program as a painter, at the university. This first publication gave her the confidence to continue to send out her poems and it was the beginning of a professional life in writing.
She wrote this first published poem as an undergraduate student working on the BFA Degree in Painting at Slippery Rock University of PA – in 1988.

Excerpt:
The book is divided into 4 sections of poetry.
The opening poem is “Star Signs,” and this is the lead in to the book.
The theme comes from Genesis 1:14 when we have a description of God creating the universe and in particular the stars or “lights in the sky.” My book begins right here, at the beginning of all creation.
Each of the 4 sections is a theme that is located in a poem. That section has a quote from the opening poem of that specific section. These are quotes from the text – an they invite the reader to proceed on into the text that follows.
As with all of my writing there are some themes that are recurring: Passage of time; Elements of Nature; Landscape and Place; Life journey as a Pilgrimage to a destination, motifs from art, music, and dance; contrast between light and darkness.
The predominate motif from this scripture is the structure on which I created this group of 70 poems. Genesis 1:14
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the

“Cassie came to me one night and the following morning I wrote a short story. I found myself really liking her, she was funny, sassy, and had a great relationship with her brother. Two more stories followed and I ended up with four stories which I put into a book and called in The Adventures of Cassidy Newbold.
I was then challenged to write a short story featuring a hot male and motor sport of some kind. So I decided to make it a Cassie Newbold story.”

Excerpt
Damien and Daniel were very much alike, and I much preferred Damien, which was just as well, really. Their look and build were so similar they could have been twins, but they weren’t.
Rachel was saying, “Every encounter I’ve had with her has been on the stairs or the landing. I even heard her name whispered. That’s why I knew it. I couldn’t believe it when you said it out loud, Cassie. Have you come across something like this before?”
The waitress arrived and took our orders. When she left, they looked at me expectantly.
“Nothing surprises me anymore. Your ghost seems intent on reliving the day she died. She was a slave brought into the country and then someone killed her.”
Rachel gasped, Daniel and Damien appeared sceptical and Damien said, “Come on, how can you possibly know that…”
“I saw someone at the top of the stairs, they moved away as I looked up.”
“They’re not real, y’know,” Damien said.
Rachel answered him. “Then how do you explain what happened?”
He shook his head. “I don’t know, it’s just bizarre.”
“It is.” I agreed.
“Well, I’m sorry,” Rachel said, emphatically. “There is no way I’m moving in with her walking up and down the stairs like that.”
Daniel huffed, his eyes gazing heavenwards with expirations. “This is going well!”
“So, what’s next?” Rachel asked, looking at me. Her large eyes blinked several times, and I think she expected me to perform a miracle.
“All I can tell you is what you already know. The house is haunted. I don’t know if I can stop it if that’s what you’re expecting.”
