Five Key Steps to Paying down Business Debt by guest contributor Brittany Fisher

paying down business debt

Building your author brand is a part of launching your author business. It’s all too easy to fall into debt when you’re getting your author business off the ground. After all, you have lots of startup costs to cover and very little revenue coming in. By implementing strategies to reduce your expenses while increasing your profits, you can pay off your debts and stay solvent. With contributions from Ann Writes Inspiration, you’ll be able to scale your business with your content strategy! Here’s how to start tackling your business debt.

Seek Professional Guidance

Don’t overlook the value of professional insight when it comes to paying off your business debts. New business owners have a lot to learn, so turning to an expert never hurts. Fundera recommends hiring a financial advisor who is a fiduciary, meaning they are legally obligated to put your interests first. You could also hire a business consultant for advice on new initiatives to grow sustainably.

Create a Strict Budget

Whether you’re paying down business or personal debt, sticking to a budget is a must. Create a budget outlining all of your expenses as well as your estimated profits for the upcoming months. Next, think about where you could cut down on your spending. Blogging Hub recommends going paperless, shifting to low-cost online marketing methods, and canceling subscriptions to any software programs you rarely use.

Consolidate Your Debts

It’s possible to consolidate business debts, and doing so can make it easier for you to pay what you owe. To start the process, you take out a new loan that accounts for all of the debt you’re hoping to consolidate. You then use this loan to pay off your other debts. Looking for a loan that offers a lower interest rate should be your top priority if you’re looking into debt consolidation.

In order to qualify for a debt consolidation loan, you will need to meet with an underwriting team, who will assess your credit score and your financial documents. This approach to paying down debt can actually help to boost your credit score and simplify your payments.

Focus on Scaling

Can you expand your business, even if you’re cutting back on your expenses and investing your profits into paying off debt? Yes! The key is focusing on scaling rather than simply growing. “Scaling” means increasing your sales without spending more money by focusing on budget-friendly sales and marketing tactics and increasing the efficiency of your internal operations.

Scaling doesn’t have to be complicated, either. By standardizing and automating key business processes, capitalizing on the unique qualities that make your company stand out, and focusing on customer retention strategies, you can begin to bring in higher profits while keeping your budget under control.

Sharpen Your Business Skills

Once you’ve paid down your debt, you might be wondering what you can do to ensure a better future for your business. Now that your company is financially stable, you may want to consider going back to school to further your education. For instance, in order to balance coursework with your responsibilities as a business owner and family commitments, you could enroll in an online MBA program. You’ll learn about everything from accounting and strategic planning to corporate finance and human capital management! With the right program, you’ll gain skills and tools that will allow your business to thrive.

If you’re struggling with business debt, you might be concerned about your company’s viability. By coming up with a concrete plan to pay off your debt, you’ll be able to keep your business afloat. Soon, you’ll be taking strides towards your other business goals!

Original poetry: The Writers Block Blues

Words disappear

In the fading light,

Editing by day

Writing by night.

I’m trying to create along

With my friends on Twitch

But my muse leaves me

And I can’t scratch the creative itch.

I want to find some music

To help me create,

But I don’t know what to listen to,

So I think I’ll sit and meditate.

Instead of working on my children’s fantasy

Or editing my author friend’s book,

I wish I had a velvet room

With a cozy little nook,

Made just right for reading,

Brainstorming and such,

But I don’t have to worry,

I love my swing so much!

When the weather is right

On a warm sunny day,

I’ll sit outside in my swing

And wile the hours away

Singing, and musing,

And brainstorming to boot

By the time I go back inside,

My muse will shoot

The words I need straight to my heart

I’ll sit down at my computer

And there I will start

To write the story of my dreams

I’ll say goodbye to writers block

it doesn’t belong here with me,

I’ll create along with my friends

whatever will be, will be

MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR John Jarman…

John Jarman is a professional fitness coach and men’s discipleship leader with a passion for seeing lives changed by Jesus Christ. A former football coach and Marine Corps veteran of Desert Storm, John’s life was radically transformed from a self-destructive trajectory to one of life, wholeness, and a dynamic walk with Christ, a story that is told in the pages of Broken and Redeemed. John holds a master’s degree in Physical Education from Ohio University, and, as of this writing, is close to completing a Master’s degree in Theology from Faith Seminary in Tacoma, Washington, where he resides.

John’s book is entitled Broken & Redeemed and the details are as follows

Description:

Broken and Redeemed is the story of one man’s journey, beginning with John Jarman’s troubled childhood and challenges as an adult, and resolving as he finds redemption in the grace of God.

John Jarman openly writes his challenges, failures, losses, and blessings on the pages of Broken and Redeemed. While exploring himself through counseling and mentorship, John was led to completely surrender his life to Jesus, finding strength in faith and power through the presence of the Holy Spirit in his life. He shares with readers what helped him reach this critical juncture and transformation in his life, along with relevant self-reflection and discussion questions for group or personal use.

It is John Jarman’s desire that Broken and Redeemed guides readers through a deeper examination of their faith—one that exposes how accepting Christ is easy but walking in true obedience will place them in situations they never thought they would encounter. John knows that listening to God’s voice and following it will lead willing believers on the path He wants to take them; when they get on board with Him, that is when they truly begin to live!

Excerpt (optional):

With no memory of his childhood till the age of twelve, John Jarman had no conscious way to overcome the unknown pain in his past. When his adult life crumbled around him, he finally reached out for professional help, both emotionally and spiritually. Over the next ten years, this inner work lead John to places he—and his counselor—would never have expected.

As John moved closer to God in the process,

the storm hit harder than ever, taking him to his knees.

Discover how John got up and, by the grace of God, walked through the storm of his life and strengthened his faith through completely surrendering to his Heavenly Father. As John learned and shares in this book, trusting God and becoming vulnerable are the only way to true freedom.

In Broken and Redeemed, John Jarman shares a story of beautiful, authentic brokenness that rests in the redemption only found in God.

MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR Maxwell Ivey…

Maxwell Ivey grew up in a family of carnival owners. He started losing his vision to retinitis pigmentosa at an early age becoming legally blind by junior high school and totally blind by the time he graduated from college. He did graduate from traditional schools, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and worked in the family business until his dad’s death forced the closure of their small show. Needing something new he started helping people sell surplus rides. He had to learn so much including how to hand code html, recruit clients, set fees, build an email list, manage social media, and more. People were inspired by his willingness to take on difficult challenges and encouraged him to share more about being a blind entrepreneur. That lead to a second site as the blind blogger, with three books out so far and a fourth due any time. He’s promoted himself through podcast interviews appearing on over 200 shows as well as public speaking where he has shared his inspiring story with local organizations and national conferences. He helps other creative entrepreneurs grow their brands through online interviews. He loves to sing, travel, and find new adventures. If you have questions, just ask.
