MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR LISA PINNEY…

Lisa Pinney lives in Pittsburgh, Pa with her husband. She has two adult children and three grandchildren. She is the owner and operator of Pittsburgh Transformation Center, where she works as
As a Christian transformation coach. She coaches the issues of the heart not the problem.
She helps to deepen your relationship with God and with others by Identifying negative beliefs and creating a pathway to communicate from the heart. She believes the pathway to the heart is as individual as each person’s experience and Jesus now the way.

Book Title:
Deeper Living the Christian Life In the Deep Down

Description:

In her book, Lisa writes about what it’s like for Jesus to reach the wounded place of the heart to bring about emotional healing, transformation, and spiritual growth. You’ll learn what emotional needs are. You’ll learn how important it is to have your emotional needs met in Christ and in relationships. You’ll see how unmet needs lead to self-medicating, self-protecting, and self-sabotaging behaviors.

Lisa mixes her own personal journey of emotional healing so the reader can relate, and identify their own need for emotional healing. The book has contemplations or visual prayer exercises at the end of each chapter, however, this is not a how to book. Readers are invited to cultivate their own intimate relationship with the lover of their soul.

MORE ABOUT THEA RAMSAY (in her own words)…

“I’ve been a Christian for a long time. I’m Baptist, and have undergone the believer’s baptism twice—the first time when I was fourteen, the second time in the Pacific Ocean off Maui, with my late husband.
I’ve been writing since before I could spell. I still remember writing a short story in which I spelled magic “M-A-D-J-I-K.” Ha ha.
I’m a voracious reader, and still like magic, however you spell it. Not witchcraft, of course; I mean fantasies and fairy tales, which have delighted people for centuries.
I was born blind, have chronic pain from a variety of conditions, and a serious mental illness called borderline personality disorder.
I’m concerned about so much darkness and dystopic material in books and movies today. My mother liked horror, the strange and terrible, whereas I’ve always been attracted by beauty, the strange and lovely.
My favorite Bible verse is John 3:16 and 17. It’s still the best news I’ve heard all day. 1st Thessalonians chapter 4 verses 13-18 are also my favorite verses, as they deliver still more good news re the rapture of the church.
I’ve always been fascinated by the idea that true believers in Jesus Christ are called his bride.
My fave book in the Bible is the Song of Songs.
Anyway, I like soft, romantic, beautiful things. There’s not enough of that anymore in the world, so my writing is about that.”

Thea’s latest book is entitled Lucy.

Description:
Ten-year-old Lucy and her parents live on Earth in the last throes of its final holocaust. Their only hope is being accepted as refugees on another world, but one rejection letter after another eats away at their hope, while death closes in on them. Hope revives when a stranger arrives with a letter of acceptance from the mysterious planet Andorpha.

While Lucy, her best friend, Kim, and her parents wait to board the space ship, her parents are killed. Lucy faces danger and growth as she comes to grips with her parents’ death and the strange customs of Andorpha. While Kim laps up Andorphian love like warm milk, Lucy wonders if it’s all too good to be true. When Lucy learns the Andorphians believe their planet is under a curse, she begins to suspect there is a reason that she and her family were so readily accepted as refugees. Do they expect her to be the antidote to an ancient curse?

When Kim urges Lucy to accept the Andorphians and their way of life, the only shot at life they have, Lucy is certain she’s right. But all is not what it seems.

My Five-Step Writing Process

Hello everyone in the Blogosphere,
Today I’d like to share with you my five-step writing process. As you read the steps below, remember that each person’s process is different and you can revert back to previous steps if necessary. If you want to listen to my explanation of this process in greater detail, Please check out my latest episode of Inspirational Journeys:

Step 1: Plotting

This step is great for both the extensive outliner and the pantser with a plan. Some authors take this writing prep time to do research, get in some free writing to brainstorm ideas in a journal or notebook, whether digitally or by hand. If you’re a visual person, you may want to do a bit of mind mapping. For some authors, outlining is key to their success, while others find a story board useful for gathering their ideas. For me, plotting is simply writing down the bare bones of a story idea, which may be inspired by a dream or some other means, in my journal or in the notes app on my phone.

Step 2: Drafting

Here’s where the fun begins for some, and maybe not so much for others. It’s time to create your project, whether it be novel, nonfiction book, professional article, or personal essay for your blog or some other publication. For me, this is the fun part, because I get to build on the plotting I did at the beginning of this process. However, I may go back to that first step to do more brainstorming, when I get stuck or have a case of writers block.

Step 3: Revising

After your first draft is complete, the revision stage is where your WIP can be developed into a beautiful piece of writing. During this process, I dump scenes that don’t work in my journal, but you can also create a file or a folder in your writing software for such scenes, as you may want to pull from them later for a future story. After I do my scene dumping, I write new scenes that fit my story. If you like to write your WIP out of order, you can also spend time making sure your scenes flow in a linear fashion. I also add new elements and change dialogue to enhance my WIP, thus keeping my readers engaged.

Step 4: Editing

Many authors may see revising and editing as one in the same. However, I prefer to separate them, because after the first round or two of revision, I can go over the manuscript with a fine-tooth comb. Here’s where I cut out as many extraneous words as possible and correct spelling, punctuation, sentence structure etc. After you’ve done as much self-editing as possible, the next part of this step is either sending your manuscript out to beta readers, hiring a professional editor or both.

Step 5: Publishing and Book Marketing

After you’ve taken your book as far as you can go through the editing step, you have a wide range of options to choose from. You can format your manuscript or hire a professional to do the formatting for you, which is what I did. After formatting is complete, you have the option of where you want to distribute your eBooks, what print on demand publisher you want to use etc. If you don’t want to go that route, you can also submit your book to small publishing houses or pitch it to agents to possibly get a book deal with a traditional publisher. Remember, that once the book is in the hands of readers, it’s up to you to promote your book, no matter what publishing option you choose.

Feel free to use this process as a whole or in part to help you create your own process. Learning from authors in your community and writing/marketing experts, will help you figure out what works for you. Until next time, happy writing.

Love and prayers,
Ann

MORE ABOUT GUEST AUTHOR Cynthia McGregor…

Multi-published author and freelance editor Cynthia MacGregor can claim over 100 books of hers that have been published since 1993, when her first book came out. And that total doesn’t include books she’s ghostwritten for clients. She writes for both adults and kids; and oddly, while her books for adults are almost entirely nonfiction, her books for kids are predominantly fiction. She works 7 days a week, with time off for church on Sundays, and puts in long hours every day. People who know her call her “the Energizer bunny.” She just keeps going and going. Cyn, as she likes to be called, loves her work and her life and says, “There’s no one in the world I’d want to trade lives with.”

Our featured book is entitled Wisdom from a Happy Woman – book 2

Book Description:

This motivational/inspirational book is a follow-on to Book 1 of the same title and is composed of short, thoughtful, uplifting passages—they’re not really essays; they’re shorter than that and not at all ponderous as an essay can often be.

Excerpt (optional):

WITHOUT DREAMS, WHO ARE WE AND WHAT DO WE HAVE?

Dreams are the jet engines that help our hopes take flight. Dreams—it is not night dreams we are talking about here, but wishes and hopes—propel us into adventures and accomplishments we might not otherwise reach for. Without dreams, either we have no goals at all or puny ones at best.

Are you content to plod through life, drifting from day to day just getting by and seeing what tomorrow brings—which is probably “more of same”? Are you so devoid of wishes and dreams (or have you totally given up hope of seeing them come to fruition, to the extent that you’ve abandoned them), that you don’t try to improve your life in any aspect?

Even if you have a decent job, career, or profession, earn a steady income, and have no reason to worry about losing your position—even if you’re in a good relationship, whether or not you’re legally married, and you’re happy with the way things are…even if you live in a comfortable home, be it a rural farmhouse, suburban house or condo, urban apartment or loft—even if you have all these things, isn’t there something more you would like?

Dream it—and then reach for it.

Maybe you’d like to live on a houseboat. Maybe you’d like to travel to a far-off, exotic site—a rainforest, an Old-World city filled with ancient ruins, an Oriental location reasonably untouched by modern civilization, a mountaintop that only a brave and daring few have scaled. Maybe you’d like to see an invention of yours reach the marketplace and become the next hot sensation. Maybe you’d like to start a new charity or other organization that promotes a cause. Maybe you’d like to write the much-vaunted Great American Novel (although I think Mark Twain has already laid claim to that achievement—but maybe you’d like to write TGAN for this century). Or, if not The Great American Novel, then at least a best-seller.

But how will you accomplish any of these things if you don’t aspire to them?

It all starts with a dream.

3 Tips for Making Your Book Babies Shine

Hello everyone in the blogosphere,
Today I have another writing related post to bring you. If you’d like to hear the latest episode of the Inspirational Journeys podcast, where I talk about the tips I’m bringing you, and share my reason behind these tips, please visit:

Last night, I started reading a book called Don’t Quit While You’re Ahead, by Cynthia MacGregor, when the Holy Spirit convicted me to revise A Journey of Faith: A Stepping Stones Mystery. I’m glad I started on it, because I found that one of my character’s name was misspelled, along with other obvious mistakes in the book that I was unaware of at the time of publication. If you find yourself in the same situation, here are three tips you can use, to make your book babies shine.

Don’t Rush the Publishing Process

This holds true, especially for aspiring authors. I know you’ve finished your story and you’re excited about getting your book into the hands of readers, but you want to revise and polish your manuscript before it goes out on the market. You only get one chance to shine, so you want to make it the best it can be. I learned this the hard way when I made my first publishing mistake. Since then, my writing has improved, and I’ve gotten good feedback about my book. However, I relied too heavily on the publisher to make sure it was in tiptop shape. I learned a valuable lesson when I started editing my book last night. No matter who publishes your book, it’s your baby; therefore, it’s up to you to go over your manuscript with a fine-toothed comb and make sure you’re satisfied with the end result.

Check all Proof Copies for Mistakes

If you’re working with a small press, or you’re self-publishing, make sure each proof copy of your book is as error free as possible. Taking this step will save you time and money.

It Never Hurts to Edit Previously Published Work

All you Indie authors can take advantage of this tip, especially if you’ve uploaded an eBook. Paperbacks can be updated as well, but they would be published as new editions to your book. Not only am I working through this process for my own book, I have a friend who has updated her four of her Bible devotionals after publishing her fiction work and poetry.

Now that I have shared my tips with you, I challenge you to revisit your previously published manuscripts. Are you satisfied with them? Do they need a major overhaul, or just a simple minor fix? If the answer is no to any of these questions, then you may want to consider reworking them if possible. However, if you’ve answered yes to any of them, then you’re good to go.

I hope these tips will help you during, or after your publishing process. Stay tuned for a special guest interview with the author mentioned at the top of this post. Until next time, happy writing.
Blessings,
Ann
